Derek grew up with an immense interest in nature, and traveling widely at a young age brought him face-to-face with the diversity of landscapes, ecosystems, and cultures. That fascination became a commitment to system change: working out, through investments, how nature and society's social infrastructure can be brought into better balance. It led him to study Future Planet Studies, combining sustainability with finance, and to the question he keeps returning to: how do you make nature bankable?

Derek has worked in impact investing in a range of analytical and commercial roles, always looking for ways to connect people and ideas, and is an impact investor himself. His focus now is on wealth management, as the place where capital can be moved most directly towards the technologies, ideas and people driving that change. Alongside this, he is developing Next Collective, a program and modules for the next generation, guiding his peers towards stewardship of money rather than ownership.
