
Jan van de Venis

Jan van de Venis is the acting Dutch Ombudsperson for Future Generations at the Lab for Future Generations and vice chair of the global Network of Institutions and Leaders for Future Generations. He is also the founder of JustLaw, a law firm specialising in human rights, sustainability, and the legal protection of future generations.
For more than a decade, Jan has worked at the intersection of law, human rights, and sustainable development. He has collaborated with UN human rights bodies on environmental and future generations issues and has been a guest lecturer at universities and institutions such as Nyenrode, Clingendael, UNESCO, and UNITAR.
Jan is actively involved in numerous initiatives and legal efforts that aim to strengthen the protection of human rights, a healthy environment, and the interests of future generations. His work includes advising on lawsuits, campaigns, and policy initiatives related to the Rights of Nature and the institutional representation of future generations.
His commitment to restoring the balance between humanity and nature is also reflected in his role as President of the Dutch National Park Dunes of Texel and as former President, now Vice President, of the Dutch National Parks Association. Jan is a TEDx speaker and recognised UN Harmony with Nature expert on earth-centred law.
In his talk "Imagining the Most Beautiful Future," Jan invites participants to reflect on the spirit of our time and the responsibility we carry for the generations to come. He explores how investors and decision-makers today can help shape a future in which both people and planet can thrive.
