Aqua-Spark is a global impact investment fund, founded in 2013 and based in the Netherlands, that focuses on sustainable aquaculture. 

The fund invests based on the conviction that aquaculture plays a key role in the future supply of protein, provided that the sector undergoes fundamental sustainability improvements. With investors from more than 25 countries and approximately €450 million under management, Aqua-Spark has grown into a leading player within the “blue economy”.

Aqua-Spark invests globally in companies active across the entire aquaculture value chain, including feed, technology, production, and distribution. Through this value chain approach, the fund supports the development of more efficient and sustainable production systems and encourages collaboration between portfolio companies. The focus is on addressing structural bottlenecks such as dependence on wild fish feed, disease management, and inefficient processes.

The portfolio includes alternative protein solutions, aquatech, and innovative production models. Aqua-Spark invests with a long-term horizon and combines capital with active involvement in the growth and professionalization of companies. Recently, the fund has further expanded this strategy with a dedicated Africa fund, aimed at developing sustainable aquaculture in emerging markets.

The fund aims for tangible impact in the areas of environment, food security, and economic development, thereby contributing to the development of a future-proof and sustainable food system.
