Cross-Border Impact Ventures (CBIV) is a Canadian impact venture capital investor with offices in Toronto, London, and Amsterdam, focusing on healthtech solutions for women, children, and adolescents.
The fund’s mission is to address the significant underinvestment in healthcare innovations for women and children, making healthcare much more effective for over 50% of the world’s population. CBIV invests in early- and growth-stage companies (series A-B) that develop medical technologies—from diagnostics and devices to digital health solutions and biotech—with the aim of making these globally accessible and scalable.
The investment strategy focuses on all healthcare domains exclusive to women and children (such as maternal and child care, and sexual and reproductive care), as well as diseases that manifest differently and/or disproportionately in women and children and are therefore underdiagnosed and undertreated, such as cardiovascular diseases and lung cancer, Alzheimer’s and other brain disorders, and asthma, among others. CBIV employs a ‘dual market’ strategy: the fund primarily invests in companies from Europe and North America, with a clear focus on global applicability. All companies in which it invests commit to making their products available in low- and middle-income countries as well. CCBIV applies a gender and inclusion lens to its investments and focuses on addressing the structural underinvestment in women’s health and child care. Portfolio companies combine commercial growth with impact objectives, including access to affordable care and improved health outcomes.
In addition to capital, CBIV actively supports companies in international scaling, including through a network of healthcare professionals, governments, and NGOs. The fund thus plays a role in accelerating the global adoption of innovative health technologies.
